About

My name is Janet Neilson, I am a Castlemaine based printmaker. In my home studio I have made the decision to simplify the workspace and the techniques.  This has led me to concentrate on linoprints and more recently collagraph prints. I make my collagraph plates on thick card or mount board applying various materials such as gesso, impasto medium and carborundum to build up tone and texture, and I cut into the card to create shapes. I have also started to incorporate some collage elements into the images as I am printing them.

I am less concerned with making multiples from my printing plate, though I still do edition some prints. I prefer to create a unique image or small varied edition using the collagraph plate as my starting point.

The inspiration for my prints comes from my immediate natural surroundings, trees, plants and birdlife feature in my work.
